The External Review Team recommends to the AdvancEd Accreditation Commission that the Towns County School System earn the distinction of accreditation by AdvancED. |
Each of the schools in the Towns County School System is accredited by SACS CASI ( Southern Association of College and Schools-Council on Accreditation and School Improvement). SACS CASI is an accreditation division of AdvancED. AdvancED is a nonprofit organization that conducts on site external review of schools and school systems. AdvancED was created through a merger of the PreK-12 divisions of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and the Southern Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. In 2011 AdvancED expanded further by adding the North West Accreditation Commission. The last external review for each of the schools was conducted in 2010. The reviews are conducted on a five year cycle. In October 2015 AdvancED will be conducting an external review of the Towns County School District. Currently each school is accredited individually. In 2014 Towns County Schools applied to be considered for system accreditation. When the AdvancED team visits in October they will be reviewing the school system as an institution rather than each individual school. In preparation for the visit the school system has been preparing necessary documents and collecting evidence to support the standards evaluated by AdvancED.
